A special thanks to Bret Lucas of Chandler PD for sharing some of his pictures with the Chapter. He always has the best shots (because he has the biggest camera) and the most witty commentary to go with them. I think I will appoint him as the official Chapter Photographer. Click any of the links below to go to his online photo album. 2007 Arizona State Fire School in Mesa, Az. This year's class was Beginning Fire Investigations. It was one of the fullest classes in the fire school this year was a total of 54 students. A good time was had by all. 2006 Annual Meeting in Mesa, Az. This year’s meeting was the most attended by members in recent memory. Thanks to all of those who ran and were elected to offices in the Chapter 2006 Advanced Fire/Arson Training Seminar in Prescott, Az. This year’s seminar included such topics as: The importance of Private & Public Cooperation, Firefighter Arsonist, Fire Investigator Safety and Respiratory Protection and Flashover & Irregular Patterns. All had a great time and a lot of great information was learned. IAAI convention in Denver Colorado I went to Denver and attended a day at the IAAI
Conference. Even though I got a less than warm reception from the IAAI
staff, I did have fun with the Arizona Delegation and learned some important
safety considerations in fire investigations.
We went to Tucson for Arson 4. Since I was a mentor for Group 1, I got to play the suspect for the mock trial. I was found guilty but my lawyer the arson reduced to a misdemeanor.
Maricopa County Fire Investigation Task Force and the
ATF National Response Team joined forces to investigate a large commercial
fire in Gilbert. In the end the fire was ruled undetermined but it did show
how well the two investigative bodies worked together. ATF said our task
force was one of the most sophisticated in the country.
MCSO Deputy Josh Freidman was able to get several
buildings that were to be torn down donated so we could burn rooms and train
investigators. Swat teams, bomb teams and fire investigation teams from all
over the county came for the week long activities. It was like a public
safety jamboree that finished by burning the big building to the ground.
Zero moisture plus cold weather means people turning on their heaters and setting their houses on fire. Add a little arson and you can see what we have been doing for the past three weeks. 20th Annual Fire/Arson Seminar
